The CCOE is a registered Massachusetts 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
focused on conducting citizen-science population studies and programs in
the areas of community engagement, medical cannabis, adult-use
cannabis, and social justice within the cannabis industry.
Founded by the Cannabis Community Care and Research Network
(C3RN), led by Dr. Marion McNabb and Randal MacCaffrie, C3RN operated in
Massachusetts as a cannabis research, education, and advocacy company
from 2017 to 2020. During this period, C3RN achieved significant
milestones, including advocating for the cannabis research license in
Massachusetts, establishing a four-year research and education
partnership with UMass Dartmouth, conducting seven cannabis consumer and
patient research studies, and publishing the findings. C3RN also
collaborated with Holyoke Community College to create the Cannabis
Education Center.
The C3RN leadership team won the first annual Cannabis Ancillary
Business Start-up Competition hosted by the Boston University Questrom
School of Business and Green Lion Partners in 2017. The winning concept
led to the creation of a virtual Cannabis Center of Excellence, with Dr.
Marion McNabb as the current President and Founder. The team conducted
unique cannabis research studies, developed and taught undergraduate and
graduate cannabis-focused educational programs, and led over 20
high-level educational and networking events in Massachusetts related to
cannabis from 2018 to 2020.
Additionally, C3RN served as a Cannabis
Control Commission State Social Equity Training Vendor in 2019-2020,
offering courses on various aspects of the cannabis industry hired by
the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission. All work, data, and
educational materials from C3RN were donated to form the Virtual
Cannabis Center of Excellence in 2020. The CCOE studies are reviewed and
approved by the UMass Dartmouth Institutional Review Board (IRB),
except for those noted otherwise, ensuring ethical clearance for human
subjects.
“It is our hope that this study will produce data about the risks, benefits, and how cannabis is being used as a harm reduction alternative. Findings will be shared with participants, clinicians, and policymakers.”
